In simultaneous interpreting, the interpreter listens to the speaker’s words via headphones in an interpreting booth, translates them into the target language in real time, and transmits the translation to the audience’s headphones via a microphone. This allows a speaker’s words to be translated into multiple languages simultaneously by several interpreters. Simultaneous interpreting is most commonly used in large, particularly multilingual, meetings.
